Arrrggghhh You Ready to Read?
Reported by webmaster@ipsd.org on 10/30/09
The mateys at Georgetown sure are ready to “Get Hooked on Reading!” This pirate themed reading incentive program will begin on November 1, 2009. During a rousing assembly this morning, the students were introduced to our all school reading theme “Get Hooked on Reading.” 4PA and Mr. Griffin, aka the pirate penguin, acted out a fantastic skit that explained how the program will work. All of the teachers and staff showed their support for “Get Hooked on Reading!” by wearing theme shirts and dressing up like pirates. Yo ho ho, the excitement is contagious!
Each student is being challenged to read 400 minutes (200 minutes for kindergarten) during the month of November. Each time the children read, they are going to log their minutes on our new reading theme site http://lmc.ipsd.org/georgetownreads/default.asp. As they read, the children will be able to earn reading prizes, such as bookmarks and pizza from Pizza Hut. In addition, they will be able to participate in volunteer activities in the LMC.
Letters explaining the program in more detail have already been sent home. Log-in and password information should come home with the students by today, October 30. Don’t let your little one set adrift on the reading sea! Read with your child and help captain their reading ship to success.
